About Jessica

My journey with horses is the heart of my work.

Horsewoman. Lifelong learner. Equine Bodyworker.

I believe every horse has a story to tell. My role is to listen—to their body, their movement, and the subtle signs they share. Through thoughtful, individualized bodywork, I help support greater comfort, understanding, and balance.

My Bio

I’m Jessica, a certified equine bodyworker and owner of Bloom & Balance Equine, based in Blacksburg, Virginia, serving Southwest Virginia and surrounding areas.

My passion for horses began at a young age. Over the years, I’ve worked as a working student, groom, and barn manager. I’ve also been a part of the veterinary field working as an assistant in both equine and small animal practices. Those experiences shaped the way I look at horses today—not simply at one area of concern, but at the whole horse.

Bodywork became the missing piece for me. It allows me to combine my knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and horse behavior with hands on care to help horses move more comfortably and feel their best. I have a special interest in working with sensitive, shy, and guarded horses. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where horses can release tension, find relief, and move with greater freedom.

And then there was

Daisy

The horse who changed everything —and ultimately inspired Bloom & Balance.

Her story is where this work truly began.

Meet Daisy

Daisy is my off-the-track Thoroughbred, my partner, and the horse who ultimately changed the direction of my work.

After Daisy was diagnosed with kissing spines, I became determined to better understand how I could support her comfort, movement, and long-term well being.

That search led me deeper into rehabilitation and biomechanics, and eventually to the work of Freely Forward Bodywork.

As I began using what I was learning with Daisy, I saw meaningful changes— not only in how she moved and felt, but in how closely I was learning to listen to what she was communicating through her body.

Those changes inspired me to pursue equine bodywork professionally.

Daisy taught me that supporting a horse isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s about slowing down, looking at the whole picture, and listening more closely.

That lesson continues to shape every horse I work with today.

What Sets Me Apart

Whole Horse Perspective

I look beyond the area of concern to understand compensation patterns and how the whole body works together.

Education & Empowerment

I believe owners are an important part of their horse’s care. After each session, I share what I observed, how your horse responded, and simple ways you can continue supporting their comfort between visits.

Gentle, Individualized Approach

Every horse is an individual. I use a calm, intuitive approach that meets them where they are— physically and emotionally.

Experience with Sensitive Horses

I have a special interest in my heart for sensitive, shy, and misunderstood horses who need patience and understanding.

Commitment to Continued Learning

I am constantly expanding my knowledge so I can provide the highest level of care for every horse I work with.
